Day Centres

Day centres offer therapeutic services and activities aimed at helping seniors maintain their independence, thereby allowing them to age in place and remain in their homes for as long as possible. 

Main purposes

  • Promote aging in place
  • Maintain physical abilities
  • Stimulate cognitive functions
  • Promote healthy lifestyle habits
  • Break social isolation and build relationships
  • Provide respite for informal caregivers

Activities (adapted to the participants’ abilities)

  • Intellectual stimulation (memory games, discussions on various topics, etc.)
  • Sensory stimulation
  • Health promotion
  • Dietary tips
  • General exercises (mobility, falls prevention, strength, balance, etc.)
  • Specific exercises (arthritis-osteoarthritis, stoke, Parkinson’s, etc.)
  • Recreational outings and entertainment
  • Music therapy

Eligibility requirements

  • Senior living at home
  • Assessment by a professional from the CLSC to determine if the activities and services offered meet the needs of the senior experiencing a loss of independence
  • Transportation and lunch provided for a nominal fee

Information

The day centres work in partnership with the Home Support teams that are based out of our CLSCs. 

If you are currently receiving services from either of these teams, speak to one of the professionals (nurse, social worker, doctor or other).

If you are not currently receiving home support services, contact one of the four CLSCs on our territory.
