St. Mary’s Hospital Centre
St. Mary’s Hospital Centre is the first hospital in Montréal to have received the World Health Organization’s (WHO) Baby-Friendly Hospital designation from the Ministère de la santé et des services sociaux.
The hospital is renowned for its Mother-Child Care Program. With more than 4,000 deliveries each year, it is one of the largest maternal care centres on the Island of Montréal.
The unit consists of 12 private birthing suites, an operating room and a recovery room for C-sections as well as 43 beds (private rooms and multi-bed rooms).

Hôpital de LaSalle
The Family Birthing Unit at Hôpital de LaSalle, known as the Unité familiale des naissances (UFN), welcomes close to 3,600 babies a year. The Unit features a LDRP concept (labour, delivery, recovery and postpartum), which allows the family to remain in the same private room for the duration of their stay.
The unit consists of 42 private rooms as well as an operating room and a recovery room.

Lakeshore General Hospital
More than 1,200 births each year take place at the Lakeshore General Hospital. The Birthing Unit is located on the 2nd floor.
The unit consists of 10 birthing suites and 12 private rooms on the postpartum unit.

Visitor Policy
The Visitor Policy - Mother-Child Unit applies to all three hospital birthing centres:
- Lakeshore General Hospital
- Hôpital de LaSalle
- St. Mary's Hospital Centre
Birthing Center / Delivery
You may be accompanied at all times by a person of your choice.
A maximum of 2 adults may accompany you during labor, including the second parent. The staff reserves the right to limit the number of visitors.
Children under 12 years:
- They are not permitted in the delivery room / during delivery unless supervised by an adult. We suggest an adult other than the second parent.
- The second parent / support person could be responsible for the child. However, if the staff determines there is a safety issue or a concerning situation, this person will be asked to leave the room with the child and go to the waiting room.
- They cannot remain without direct supervision in the waiting room, and the team cannot be responsible for them.
- Only one child may be allowed if the conditions are met.
After Birth / Postpartum
The presence of the second parent / support person is authorized at all times.
Siblings of the newborn:
- They are welcome in the postpartum unit / Family Birth Unit if accompanied by an adult other than the mother, responsible for ensuring their safety.
- They are not permitted to stay overnight at the hospital.
Visiting hours:
- Grandparents and siblings of the newborn: from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Other persons over 12 years old: from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
- All other persons under 12 years old are not permitted on the unit.
Neonatal Care Unit
Only parents are allowed to visit the newborn when admitted to the neonatal unit and they can visit the newborn at any time.
If the staff determines there is a safety issue or a concerning situation, the team reserves the right to limit the number of visitors
Other information
A visitor presenting with flu-like symptoms will not be permitted on the unit.
Visiting hours have been established in your interest and aim to:
- Encourage rest periods and a prompt recovery for you and your baby
- Ensure the care and safety of your baby
- Optimize learning periods for your family
- Prevent infections
