Charges - Refusal to transfer

When you are admitted to the hospital, the care team provides care to help you recover and regain as much independence as possible.

Returning home after being in hospital

The goal of the care team is always to see you return home.

However, that isn’t always possible.

If you can’t return home after being in hospital

A team of professionals will help you find a living environment that is appropriate to your health condition.

For example:

  • Rehabilitation Centre
  • CHSLD or other residential facility
  • Community-based services
  • Home care

If you refuse a transfer

If you refuse to leave the hospital when you are offered an appropriate transfer, you will be charged hospitalization fees

These fees aim to improve access to hospital care for everyone.

Following a regional agreement, these fees are uniformly charged at all Montréal-area hospitals.

Fees that apply when refusing a transfer

The total amount is based on the number of days the person remains hospitalized after refusing a transfer.

Fees for an adult who has been discharged and who is healthy enough to return home or for whom a place is available at another facility, but who refuses to leave the facility they are currently in. Cost per day:
$419
