The project
The reconstruction of two CHSLDs within our territory is inspired by the maison des aînés (MDA) model and is part of a major transformation of residential and long-term care facilities taking place across Québec.
The Centre d'hébergement Denis-Benjamin-Viger is one of the two facilities whose outdated infrastructures will be replaced.
In time, these two new facilities will allow us to integrate a new concept in long-term residential care. The aim is to create residential settings that feel more like home, to the benefit of both the residents and their loved ones.
LOCATION OF SITE

The clientele
The Maison des aînés Denis-Benjamin-Viger to be built will be home to individuals with a significant loss of autonomy, of whom approximately 80% have significant neurocognitive disorders.
The concept
- The facility will provide caring living environment that resembles living at home to the greatest extent possible, centred on the relationships between residents, their loved ones, informal caregivers, the staff, and the community;
- This new model for residential facilities is a welcoming place where care and services are centred on the needs, preferences, and rhythms of the residents and their loved ones;
- Architecturally, the facility will consist of air-conditioned units with private, air-conditioned rooms with their own bathroom, equipped with an adapted shower;
- Each unit will have plenty of windows, common areas, and access to landscaped outdoor areas. Each unit will also have access to a balcony.

Senior and alternative housing, for the well-being of the residents
The personalized approach
The maison des aînés concept focuses on the needs of the individual residents by:
- Adapting care and services to their needs;
- Ensuring the resident’s free and informed consent in accordance with their values and preferences, while also ensuring their safety, quality of life, and independence;
- Respecting their pace, choices, and preferences;
- Making their personal history and life’s pursuits central to the decision-making process;
- Allowing residents to decorate and configure their living environment to their own tastes;
- Respecting their privacy;
- Respecting their lifestyle and sleep habits, as well as their preferences for mealtimes and recreational activities.
