In 2008, St. Mary's Research Centre and St. Mary's Hospital Foundation established the CARE competition (Competition Attracting Research Excellence) to support the development of clinical research and healthcare services at St. Mary's Hospital Centre.
The CARE Career Development fund aims to support the recruitment and retention of exceptional clinician scientists contributing to St. Mary's Hospital's academic mission and to nurture healthcare professionals in research, fostering academic profiles, progressive research independence, and external grant funding. The fund provides start-up salary support, which must be matched by the recruiting department.
