A Team Motivated by an Innovative Department Manager
Editorial Note: This article is the third in a series on the work of the IPC partners within our organization. This text focuses on Mr. Amir Chitour, Interim Manager—Short- and Long-term Infection Prevention and Control.
Our team of IPC partners was created in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic. It consists of 20 people (formerly COVID agents), whose job is to monitor the implementation of best practices in infection prevention and control at our facilities.
“For my team, a typical day consists of discussions and collaborations in order to collect data through audits. These allow us to have a clear picture of what is really going on in our facilities in terms of hand hygiene, masking, and workplace hygiene,” says Mr. Chitour.
Furthermore, as mentioned in our previous newsletter, our CIUSSS has developed and deployed an innovative new audit tool in collaboration with the Quality, Assessment, Performance, and Ethics Directorate and the Delegated Directorate—Infection Prevention and Control. The tool consists of an app linked to a dashboard that was developed as part of the Programme québécois des soins sécuritaires (PQSS). This tool makes data available in real time (compliance rates) so that solutions can quickly be implemented by IPC advisors working with managers and unit chiefs.
“I would especially like to thank all the IPC partners on my team, who work tirelessly to overcome a whole range of obstacles. They are true guardian angels and their work has made it possible for our CIUSSS to take a continuous improvement approach in facing down the pandemic over the past three years,” says Mr. Chitour in closing.
