On December 9, we celebrated the official opening of the Dorval Alternative Home, in the company of Lionel Carmant, Minister Responsible for Social Services and Enrico Ciccone, MNA for Marquette. Also delighted to be in attendance were several other dignitaries, members of the community, representatives from the CIUSSS Centre-Ouest and the CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de l’Île-de-Montréal, residents and family members. The guests were invited to explore the facility and to appreciate the abundance of natural light that fills the building, as well as get a feel for the inviting layout of the units and common areas, designed with the well-being of all in mind.
The Dorval Alternative Home consists of 6 units made up of 12 private air-conditioned rooms, each with its own adapted bathroom and shower. In all, 72 adults with intellectual disabilities, an autism spectrum disorder and/or a physical disability (ID-ASD-PD) will be able to benefit from personalized services in this modern and welcoming home-like setting. This new residential setting is open to those who live in the territories served by the CIUSSS de l'Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal and the CIUSSS du Centre-Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal.
A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved along the way, from planning through to opening!

ADMISSION PROCESS FOR FUTURE RESIDENTS
The eligibility criteria for admission to the Dorval Alternative Home are the same as those required for admission to a CLSC. The alternative home is specifically aimed at those with significant disabilities.
To initiate the admission process, users must first contact the ID-ASP-PD access point in their territory or their home support worker for a professional assessment. This assessment will determine the type of residence or service that would best meet their needs.
The alternative home is subject to the same financial framework as CHSLDs.
