Expanding the Requirement to Report Mistreatment
“The enhancement of the Act to combat maltreatment of seniors and other adults in vulnerable situations that was passed in April 2022 extends the requirement to inform us of maltreatment to private facilities—whether they be private residences for seniors, intermediary or family-type resources, or CHSLDs. This expansion of the Act allows us to keep an eye on more blind spots and to monitor the well-being of more vulnerable individuals.” This according to Emmanuel Morin, the Service Quality and Complaints Commissioner of our CIUSSS.
In the coming months Mr. Morin intends to draw attention to the role of the Commissioner’s Office in ensuring quality at our institution. He is convinced that with the rigorous use of various measurement tools, his team can make a tangible contribution to monitoring the quality and safety of the healthcare and social services provided to the community we serve.
“More than ever, it is up to everyone who experiences, witnesses, or suspects an act of abuse to report it and to do so without hesitating. It’s completely confidential. I am thinking not only of the residents, patients, and users, including those receiving home care and services, but also their relatives. The same is true for everyone working in the health and social services network. It follows that we will be paying particular attention to the training that is available, so that as many stakeholders as possible can better understand the concepts related to declaring acts of maltreatment,” says Mr. Morin in closing.
Stay tuned! The next visibility campaign for the Office of the Service Quality and Complaints Commissioner will take place from April 3–21, 2023.
