On May 30, a commemorative ceremony was held at Ste. Anne’s Hospital to honour resident veterans who served in the Korean War. For the occasion, official representatives from the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Montreal presented the Ambassador for Peace Medal to two veterans who took part in the Korean conflict.
The Ambassador for Peace Medal commemorates the 70th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice, which was signed on July 27, 1953. In all, 516 Canadians made the ultimate sacrifice while defending South Korea, fighting for peace, democracy and freedom. At great cost and sacrifice, and in hostile conditions, our compatriots helped defeat the enemy.
In attendance at the ceremony were seven other veterans of the Korean War who had previously been honoured with this medal and who were presented with a number of souvenir gifts by official representatives of the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in Montreal.
