Equity, Diversity and Inclusion: launch of our CIUSSS policy

The CIUSSS ODIM Has adopted a policy on diversity, equity, inclusion and cultural safety!

The adoption of this policy reflects our organization’s desire to offer a work and care environment that is human, empathetic, and safe.   This policy applies to employees, managers, professionals, and partners, as well as users and their loved ones. And now … it’s time to act!

Are you wondering how this policy applies to you? No matter what role you play at the CIUSSS ODIM, your participation is needed. Here are a few simple ways to get started:

  • I’m a manager
    • I make sure that everyone on my team has their role and can develop their strengths. 
    • I question my beliefs or actions toward certain people or groups and I encourage others to do likewise.  
    • I encourage collaboration between individuals from different backgrounds.
    • I encourage and support open dialogue.  
    • I learn about managing diverse teams and I actively encourage members of my team to take part in DEI and cultural safety training available to them. 
    • I make sure that my team’s actions are adapted to all users, taking into account their individual characteristics. 
  • I provide care and services
    • I treat people (users and employees) in a way that respects who they are.  
    • I do not discriminate against users or employees, regardless of their personal characteristics. 
    • I make sure that everyone has a place. 
    • I question my beliefs toward certain people or groups and I encourage others to do likewise. 
    • I take part in the training provided on DEI and cultural safety.  
    • I tell people openly when I am uncomfortable and, if necessary, I ask for support to do so. 
      • I report any discriminatory situation I witness or experience. 
  • I’m a patient or loved one
    • I tell people openly when I specific needs, and am uncomfortable and respectful and, if necessary, I ask for support to do so. 
    • I am respectful toward the people who provide me with care or services, regardless of their differences. 
  • I’m a subcontractor, supplier, or partner
    • I respect the CIUSSS ODIM principles regarding DEI and cultural safety when working at their facilities and in my professional relationships.

DEI must be ongoing to thrive. The CIUSSS ODIM understands that some actions can be implemented quickly, while others require more extensive work to ensure lasting results. We have created a dedicated team and a strategic committee to support the planning of transformative actions. Let’s work together to do things right!
