Led by the Strategic Committee on DEI, and Cultural Safety, our CIUSSS recently adopted a Policy on Diversity, Equity, Inclusion (DEI), and Cultural Safety. It is broad in scope, setting out the guiding principles and orientations of our institution on DEI and cultural safety at all levels. It aims to ensure that all of our clienteles are treated appropriately and to create an inclusive, discrimination-free environment.
Its guiding principles are to:
- Maintain care, service and work environments that are free of all forms of discrimination or harassment, as described in the Charter of Human Rights and Freedoms;
- Establish and foster solid and lasting partnerships with community and cultural organizations that represent the diversity of the people we serve;
- Take tangible actions to adapt to the diversity of the clienteles we serve and of those who contribute to fulfilling our mission;
- Involve our clienteles, their partners, and their loved ones so that we can adjust our service offer and meet their needs;
- Allow clients to make complaints, reports, or provide information about discriminatory situations;
- Ensure that all staff receive the necessary information, training, and support on DEI and cultural safety, so that they can adapt care and services to different clienteles.
Integrating DEI and cultural safety into our practices and actions is an ongoing development process. For that reason, the current policy will be progressively adapted and modified. It will reflect evolutions in culture, as well as feedback received from our clienteles, their loved ones, community partners, and others who contribute to fulfilling our mission.
