Accreditation Canada: Visiting November 18–22

As part of the process to continuously improve our care and services, we will be welcoming visitors from Accreditation Canada during the week of November 18 to 22. This visit is an opportunity for us to show that we meet the highest quality standards.

Users or their loved ones may be asked questions by these visitors. They could ask about the quality of care and services you have received at our institution.

Here are some examples of the questions you might be asked:

  • During your stay, have you had an opportunity to express your needs?
  • Have you been involved in making decisions that affect you?
  • Have you felt safe in the locations where you received care or services?
  • Have you been asked to actively contribute to the preventing infections, such as by washing your hands regularly?
  • Have you been given clear and understandable information about the medication you were given and its possible side effects?

The surveyors use the tracer method to evaluate conformity. A tracer is a means of following the progression of a user or an administrative process along the entire continuum of care.  During the visit, surveyors may come speak with staff. They may also speak with users and their families. The goal is to understand the day-to-day functioning of a department.

Accreditation at a Glance

What is Accreditation Canada?

Accreditation Canada is an independent Canadian non-profit organization that works with healthcare institutions and users to assess the conformity of care and services.

What is Accreditation?

Accreditation measures the quality of our services. It attests that the care and services provided by the institution’s facilities meet standards of excellence. These standards serve to identify what we do well and where we can improve.
