To better address testing needs for respiratory viruses during flu season, our CIUSSS has set up a new phone line called the Flu Squad. This new service is aimed at:
- Those living in private seniors’ residences (RPA)
- Those who benefit from home support services and who live at home
Goal of the Flu Squad:
- After assessing the caller over the phone, the nurse can perform an in-home evaluation and use a rapid test to screen eligible individuals experiencing persistent flu or COVID symptoms for respiratory viruses.
- Follow-up care:
- If the result is positive, the nurse can initiate treatment in partnership with a community pharmacy.
- A doctor is available should the person’s condition require additional attention.
The Flu Squad effectively spares people from having to go to the Emergency and provides in-home treatment for eligible individuals without them having to go anywhere.
