A sod-turning ceremony took place on October 10, 2023, on the site of the Maison des ainés (MDA) Denis-Benjamin-Viger. To mark the start of the work, several dignitaries and partners attended and spoke to the importance of such an installation for the senior population of the West Island.

In time, this MDA will be home to the residents of the aging Centre d’hébergement Denis-Benjamin-Viger. Located at 4601 Boulevard des Sources in Pierrefonds-Roxboro–Dollard-des-Ormeaux, the facility being constructed will be home to 192 individuals in private rooms with a bathroom (toilet and adapted shower) for each resident. The work now underway should be completed by winter 2025–2026. The residents will be relocated in the month following the delivery of the completed building.

About senior housing (Maison des aînés)

The MDA model will feel more like home and will encourage both human contact and a more active lifestyle by providing access to furnished outdoor spaces and indoor facilities that are adapted to the needs of the residents and their families. This is the government’s new vision for seniors’ housing.
