World Breastfeeding Week will be celebrated at the Montréal West Island CIUSSS from October 1 to 7, with the theme Supporting Working Parents. Evidence shows that while breastfeeding rates drop significantly for women when they return to work, that negative impact can be reversed when workplaces facilitate mothers to continue to breastfeed their babies.
A number of family activities have been organized for the families, including the Breastfeeding/Skin-to-Skin Challenge on October 5 at all of our birthing centres and the Maison de naissances. You can take part in our contest by answering a few simple questions about breastfeeding. You could win a gift basket of honey-based products made with honey from our CIUSSS hives or a spa package.
The Montréal West Island CIUSSS is proud that several of its facilities have a Baby-Friendly Initiative certification. Their aim is to create care environments where breastfeeding is the norm and to ensure that each child has the best possible start in life. Maternal breastfeeding presents a number of challenges, and it’s a team effort. That’s why several nurses and lactation consultants are there to support mothers deploying each day. We tip our hat to all of our staff in the birthing continuum who remain committed and implement the strategies that are needed in order to provide an environment that encourages and supports breastfeeding.Thousands of babies and mothers thank you each year!
