A Canadian First at the Grace Dart Extended Care Centre!

On November 7, the Grace Dart Extended Care Centre, a facility of the CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, became the first long-term residential care centre in the country to receive the Stellar certification on excellence.  Ms. Sonia Bélanger, the Minister responsible for Health and Seniors, attended the official presentation ceremony. Over one hundred people were on hand, most of them employees and managers from the CIUSSS’ Nursing Directorate and the Support for Elderly Autonomy Directorate—Long-term Care.

The Canadian Nurses Association has awarded the centre its silver-level certification in certification of the exceptional contributions made by the nursing personnel to the well-being of the vulnerable residents at this facility. The certification looks at numerous criteria for excellence, including:

  • the emphasis on professional development;
  • expanded roles for nurses;
  • leadership development;
  • recognition of competencies;
  • an inclusive working environment that is open to the diversity that surrounds them.

These elements all undeniably have a direct and positive impact on the quality of care, which benefits the Grace Dart Extended Care Centre’s residents.

We congratulate everyone who made such significant contributed to the review process that led to this prestigious recognition.
