The Musculoskeletal Clinic at the CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, in collaboration with the Ministère de la Santé et des Services sociaux (MSSS) and the Institut de la Pertinence des Actes Médicaux (IPAM), now provides a variety of outpatient rehabilitation services for patients with musculoskeletal disorders (MSD).
Who can access this clinic
- Clientele Adults *(18 years and over)
- Users on the waiting list for a consult with a medical specialist (orthopedics, neurosurgery, physical medicine)
*Pediatric patients may be admissible following an assessment.
Please note: Patients cannot currently contact the clinic for an appointment directly. The patient’s treating physician must send a request to the Service Request Management Centre (CRDS). If the patient is eligible to the Musculoskeletal Clinic, the clinic’s team will contact them for an appointment based on the waiting list and availability.
The Musculoskeletal Clinic’s Mission and Objectives
- Meeting clients’ needs within a clinically appropriate timeframe.
- Improving their functional autonomy and social functioning.
- Teaching patients to take charge of their own health (self-management).
- Directing clients toward the most appropriate services based on their clinical needs.
- Expanding the services available to users with musculoskeletal issues by coordinating with other available services.
- Reducing the number of patients waiting for consults with medical specialists.
Care and Services Available
- An initial assessment by a physiotherapist.
- Determining the most appropriate clinical approach (self-management, reconditioning—single or multiple disciplines, cognitive behavioural approach).
- Recommendations for continued recovery.
When needed:
- Developing a treatment plan in collaboration with the patient,
- Short-term follow-ups,
- Clinical consultation with the user’s MDs and other professionals,
- Referrals to services within the CIUSSS or in the community.
The number of sessions at the Musculoskeletal Clinic varies based on the patient’s needs.
The clinic has rooms for private and confidential consultations, as well as a common area with training equipment.
The Care Team
A dedicated team of administrative agents, physiotherapists, and occupational therapists take care of the clinic’s clients.
