Last month, the occupational therapy team at Ste. Anne’s Hospital, a public CHSLD that is part of the CIUSSS de l’Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal, held its annual seminar on positioning residents in bed. Some 75 occupational therapists in training at McGill University accepted the invitation. This year for the first time, physical rehabilitation teams (rehabilitation therapists, occupational therapists, and rehabilitation attendants) from a number of our CIUSSS facilities were also able to take part in the event.
During the first half of the day, the participants learned about different types of equipment, including a wide range of therapeutic mattresses. In the afternoon, Jacqueline Nguyen, an occupational therapy advisor with the Multidisciplinary Services Directorate, led a very productive networking and discussion session. Topics included injury prevention and positioning residents (during long-term or post-acute care, intensive functional rehabilitation, short-term geriatric care), best practises, workplace realities, and more.
This partnership between McGill University and Ste. Anne’s Hospital has been ongoing for over 20 years now!

- The participants were very interested in a talk by Kathleen Chassé, rehabilitation coordinator at Ste. Anne’s Hospital and one of the event’s organizers.
