The theme for this year’s National Nursing Week, taking place May 11 through 17, is Nurses: A Voice to Lead — Nursing the World to Health. This year is particularly special, as the World Health Organization (WHO) has designated 2020 as the Year of the Nurse and Midwife to honour the 200th anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birth. Ms. Nightingale pioneered the provision of modern nursing care and the use of statistics in the healthcare.
Nurses and midwives are always at the front lines in the delivery of health care and services. As we experience this global COVID-19 pandemic, the commitment and dedication of these women and men is simply exceptional. The efforts they make on a daily basis, under what can only be described as difficult conditions, undeniably contribute to the wellbeing of all our clienteles, both the young and the not-so-young.
To pay tribute to the resilience and professionalism displayed by all members of the nursing profession—who are front and centre every day of this health crisis—and to thank them from the bottom of our hearts, an array of Québec artists wanted to participate in a touching video. You can see the testimonials from Alex Nevsky, Mitsou Gélinas, and other artists by clicking here.
I am certain that all of the staff at the Montréal West Island IUHSSC join me in sincerely thanking our nurses, nursing assistants, and midwives. Your contribution to our community cannot be underestimated.
