Did you know that the Maison de naissance du Lac-Saint-Louis Birth Centre and Hôpital de LaSalle have been working together for 15 years? As a token of their partnership, a postpartum emergency simulation was conducted by the two facilities on May 7. Midwives, nurses, respiratory therapists, and doctors took part in a postpartum internal bleeding simulation, from the patient’s hospital admittance to transfer toward the operation room. The exercise was followed by a debriefing session that addressed accomplishments and potential improvements. The purpose of the activity was to ensure proper communication among the teams, and safe care for our clientele.
Considering that none of these professions can be carried out on their own, each professional must rely on the skills, opinions, and knowledge of other professionals to ensure optimal, seamless, coordinated, and safe decisions and transfers. All these factors are crucial to create an environment of mutual trust and shared responsibility for all.
This professional expertise around the various stages of maternity benefits women in the sense that the latter are well informed, and they are included in the decisions that concern them.
