Physiotherapy


The Montréal West Island IUHSSC provides physiotherapy services in a number of sectors. The aim is to treat functional limitations that result from injuries and illnesses, and to help individuals attain the physical capabilities needed for social participation and to remain active.


In a Hospital Environment

Client groups: Primarily adults and seniors

Services offered:

  • Emergency and Intensive Care
  • Care units

    • Medical
    • Surgical
    • Geriatric
    • Oncology

  • Outpatient clinics (primarily for orthopedic surgery)

In a Community-based Setting

Client groups: Seniors with loss of autonomy and individuals with physical limitations

Services offered:

  • Home care: Maximize the safety and function of seniors who are losing their independence or who have physical disabilities. Evaluation and monitoring of individuals takes place in their living environment (home, retirement home, etc.)
  • Post-acute care: rehabilitation and return home
  • Intermediary resources
  • Lumbar Pain Clinic: an interdisciplinary program (bringing together doctors, nurses, psychologists, etc.) for back pain self-management based on the McKenzie Method
  • Outpatient rehabilitation services for adult clients: supporting reintegration into the living environment post-hospitalization.

In Long-term Care Centres

Client groups: Seniors with loss of autonomy and individuals with physical limitations

Services offered: 

  • Support in maximizing the person’s functional abilities by pursuing specific goals such as reducing pain, preventing falls, maintaining walking autonomy, etc.
