The vaccine against yellow fever is currently in short supply and will remain so for an undetermined period. Yellow fever is a serious and sometimes deadly disease. The disease is caused by a virus transmitted to humans by infected mosquitoes. Vaccination is the best way to prevent this disease.
Given this context, we encourage people planning to travel to avoid destinations where yellow fever in endemic, as the vaccine may not be available.
Please see the Travel and Tourism section of the Government of Canada website for important information on reducing health risks. The information is sorted by destination.
Should people choose to travel to a country at risk, we encourage them to consult this website to try and locate a vaccination centre offering the yellow fever vaccine. However, it is likely that these centres do not have a sufficient supply to meet all requests. Information on other preventative measures to take against mosquitoes will be provided to travellers when they visit the vaccination centre.
